888 DO UNTO OTHERS
Louise Vernon-Sorrels has always had a love for horses that has guided her life’s path, opening opportunities to share her faith and love for others. Over the years, she mentored many young people through her riding and horse training expertise. She enjoyed teaching both the horses and their riders. Working one-on-one with people, she could share the love of Jesus, and they saw in her a living example of Christian living. Being active in 4-H as a parent and a leader, she started a successful Equine Youth Therapy program. She became a certified Horse Judge for different horse associations, expanding her career. She loved traveling and especially meeting new people. Louise achieved her lifetime dream of competing in the World Horse Show in Texas. She lives on a horse farm in rural Wisconsin today, where she is still “horsing around.” Louise was married for almost fifty years to her first husband, George Vernon. Together, they were active in the youth programs at their church. They were passionate about the Gideon’s Jail Ministry and organized the BRICK community program. The mission statement is, “The BRICK lives Christ’s message to love and respect those in need compassionately,” and the vision is “To provide services and build relationships to change people’s circumstances and lives through Christ.” The BRICK continues assisting local churches and ministries to fulfill its mission and vision. To assist this ministry, Louise and George started a community garden ty, The Garden of Life.
Great-grandmother, Friend, Musician, Christian Women’s Club Chair:
Louise is always busy being the mother of three sons and a daughter, who lives nearby with her eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her love for horses and horse riding has passed down through the generations. Friendships mean a lot to Louise; she is a true friend of many people far and near. Her loving, caring, giving heart reaches out to others, and others reciprocate that love back to her. Louise always has time for friends who can count on her compassionate, listening ear and understanding, tender heart in good times and bad.
Louise grew up loving music. Her dad played the accordion and called square dances around Bayfield County. Her mom loved to sing hymns around the house. With this background, Louise and her sister, Donalee, sang in a women’s singing
group, The Carillons, known throughout Northern Wisconsin. She also sang in area church and community choirs. Now, she sings to her grandchildren. In Ashland, WI, Louise served as the first chairperson for the Christian Women’s Club national organization. Under her leadership, the organization grew, impacting hundreds of ladies who attended meaningful monthly gatherings, Bible studies, and prayer groups. Through her efforts, many women accepted Jesus as their Savior. When she is not tending her horses, Louise can be found embroidering Christmas stockings and making baby quilts for the new additions to her family tree.
Personal Vision:
To take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) andliving for Jesus.
