Nomination and criteria

Nominating an individual or organization

Membership in The Keepers of the Mitten has a unique way of selecting a recipient of our highest award, The Red Mitten Award. Individuals that make donations to The Keepers of the Mitten become members of the organization. As a member you are eligible to vote and nominate an individual or organization that meets the criteria for nomination, to receive The Red Mitten Award.

Award guidelines and timeline

RED MITTEN AWARD GUIDELINES


Introduction:

This award recognizes and honors, an outstanding individual or organization that aligns with the mission of The Keepers Of The Mitten which is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.  This individual or organization is making a significant contribution to the community in which they live through commitment, service, creativity, cooperation, and leadership in their volunteer role(s).  For the purposes of this award, volunteering is defined as:

  • Volunteers significant unpaid hours
  • Contributes talents, energy and skills to serve others
  • Benefits the organization and the community


Award Criteria:

Demonstrates exceptional commitment, service, creativity, cooperation, or leadership.

The following areas will be assessed:

  • Impact
  • Reach
  • Engagement
  • Challenges
  • Inspiration


Additional Material:

Provide a letter of reference from the local charity, non-profit or community organization that benefits from the contributions made by the individual or organization.


Judging:

The Red Mitten Award Committee appointed by The Keepers Of The Mitten Board of Directors, will select the recipient following the guidelines set by the organization.  Selection will only be based on the information contained in the Nomination Form.  The committee may verify the information but will not seek out additional information.  The successful nominee will be informed by The Red Mitten Award Committee following the December meeting of the Board of Directors.


Responsibilities:

The individual recipient or representative of the organization must be prepared to receive the award at a Red Mitten Award event planned for that purpose.

The Red Mitten Award Nomination Form and Letter of Support must be submitted online no later than September 5 of each year, designated as, the National Day of Charity.




Red Mitten Award Timeline


June TKOTM Board Meeting:

Review the nomination process and announce that TKOTM organization is open for Red Mitten Award Nominations on the website.


September 5 (National Day of Charity): 

12:00 Midnight CST, Nominations for the Red Mitten Award due through the website.  Nominations will be reviewed by an appointed Red Mitten Award Committee of at least 3.  Committee may consist of non-board members.  Their task is to select the top 3 for consideration. 


November 5:

Three finalists will be posted on the website with their nomination criteria.   All members (anyone who has donated to TKOTM) will be given the opportunity to vote.  Voting will be open for 3 weeks.


December TKOTM Board Meeting:

Review the voting results and announce the winner.  The recipient will be posted on the website and personally contacted.  Discuss arrangements for publicity and begin planning an award event to be held in conjunction with the June TKOTM Board meeting.  


June Award Event:

The Red Mitten Award will be presented at an appropriate event planned by the Red Mitten Award Committee, TKOTM Board and Executive Director.
